U.S. Travel Ban on 12 Countries Takes Effect

The travel ban imposed by U.S. President Donald Trump last week officially went into effect late Sunday night into Monday at 04:01 GMT.

The decision, which aims to « protect the United States from foreign terrorists and other national security threats, » according to the White House, targets citizens from the following countries: Afghanistan, Myanmar, Chad, Republic of the Congo (Congo-Brazzaville), Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, and Yemen.

Additionally, restrictions were placed on citizens of seven other countries—Burundi, Cuba, Laos, Sierra Leone, Togo, Turkmenistan, and Venezuela—limiting their ability to obtain U.S. entry visas.
