Tunisia Calls for Mediterranean Alliance on Marine Protection

In his speech during the UN Ocean Conference in Nice on June 11, 2025, Tunisian Foreign Minister Mohamed Ali Nafti reaffirmed Tunisia’s commitment to its ecological transition strategy and the protection of coastal and marine ecosystems.

He called for a Mediterranean alliance to tackle coastal erosion, rising sea levels, and biodiversity loss, urging stronger regional cooperation, nature-based solutions, and better use of scientific and financial resources.

Nafti also highlighted Tunisia’s role in hosting the Regional Activity Centre for Specially Protected Areas and praised the Trust Fund for Mediterranean Marine Protected Areas as a key tool for sustainable management.
