On June 17, 2025, Tunisia opened the 23rd Regional Meeting of National African Authorities of States Parties to the Chemical Weapons Convention, chaired by Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration, and Tunisians Abroad, Mohamed Ali Nafti. The event runs through June 19.

In his opening speech, Minister Nafti reaffirmed Tunisia’s commitment to African-led solutions and the African Union’s Agenda 2063, particularly in the areas of peace and security. He highlighted Tunisia’s active role in promoting regional cooperation and collective security, referencing the « Silencing the Guns 2030 » initiative.

The annual meeting brings together 49 participants from 45 African countries, along with experts from the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons and Tunisian national bodies. Discussions focus on aligning national policies with the Convention’s goals, sharing best practices, and supporting peaceful uses of chemical sciences across Africa.
