At TICAD 9, Tunisia Calls for Just and Effective Global Economic System

Tunisian Head of Government Sara Zaafrani Zenzeri, speaking on behalf of President Kais Saied, addressed the opening of the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 9) in Yokohama on August 21, 2025.

She called for a new, fairer global economic system, arguing that the current order has weakened African economies despite their natural wealth. Zenzeri urged debt relief for poor countries, greater investment in Africa, and development approaches led by African priorities in line with the AU’s Agenda 2063.

Highlighting Tunisia’s 2026–2030 development plan, she stressed social justice, renewable energy, technology, and digital transformation as key sectors. She reaffirmed Tunisia’s close ties with Japan and expressed hope TICAD 9 would deliver concrete results for Africa’s future.
