Tunisian FM, U.S. Congressional Delegation Discuss Bilateral Ties

Tunisian Foreign Minister Mohamed Ali Nafti received a delegation from the U.S. Congress on Thursday, August 28, 2025, led by Congressman Mike Lawler, Chairman of the Subcommittee on the Middle East and North Africa, and accompanied by Congressman Ritchie Torres.

The visit marked the 228th anniversary of the 1797 Treaty of Peace and Friendship between Tunisia and the United States. Discussions focused on strengthening bilateral ties in security, renewable energy, sustainable development, agriculture, academic cooperation, and technology.

Minister Nafti urged greater trade and investment opportunities, while the U.S. delegation expressed Congress’s support for Tunisia’s economic stability and highlighted prospects for private-sector partnerships.

The meeting also addressed regional issues, particularly the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, where Tunisia reiterated its firm support for the Palestinian cause and the urgent need to deliver aid.
