In a First, Rwanda Launches Africa’s First Self-Flying Air Taxi

Rwanda made history by launching Africa’s first public trial of an electric self-flying air taxi during the 9th Africa Aviation Summit and Exhibition, held in Kigali on September 4–5, 2025. The event brought together over 70 airlines and hundreds of industry leaders and experts.

President Paul Kagame attended the demonstration of the EH216-S, a pilotless electric aircraft developed with Chinese partners EHang and China Road and Bridge Corporation.

The breakthrough is seen as a milestone for advanced air mobility in Africa, offering new solutions to urban transport challenges such as congestion and limited infrastructure.
