Oscar-winning actor and director Robert Redford, one of the most iconic figures in global cinema, has passed away at the age of 89. His longtime publicist, Cindi Berger, confirmed his death on Tuesday.

CNN reported that Redford died peacefully at his Sundance home in Utah, surrounded by family and loved ones. The family has requested privacy during this difficult time.

Redford rose to fame through unforgettable roles in classics such as Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid and All the President’s Men. He also excelled as a director, earning an Academy Award for Ordinary People and later helming acclaimed films like A River Runs Through It.
