Defense Agreement Between Kenya and Ethiopia to Strengthen East Africa’s Security

Kenya and Ethiopia signed a defense cooperation agreement in Addis Ababa on 25 September 2025, aiming to strengthen security in the Horn of Africa and East Africa.

The pact, announced by Kenya’s Ministry of Defense, provides for joint training, improved interoperability, and faster intelligence sharing.

Kenyan Chief of Defense Forces General Charles Kahariri called the agreement a step toward African self-reliance, while Ethiopian Chief of Staff Field Marshal Berhanu Jula said it reflects the historic ties and shared challenges between the two neighbors.
