Tunisian Foreign Minister Met With UN Secretary-General in New York

Tunisian Foreign Minister Mohamed Ali Nafti met with UN Secretary-General António Guterres on September 27, 2025, in New York, on the sidelines of the 80th UN General Assembly.

Nafti conveyed President Kaïs Saïed’s greetings and praised Guterres for his strong stance in support of the Palestinian cause. He reaffirmed Tunisia’s commitment to multilateralism and the central role of the UN, while stressing the need for reforms to strengthen its effectiveness. The Minister also highlighted Tunisia’s long-standing contributions to UN peacekeeping and noted the President’s 2025 initiative to mark the UN’s 80th anniversary under the theme: “Enhancing Multilateral Action and Consolidating Cooperation with the UN System.”

For his part, Guterres expressed respect for President Saïed, describing Tunisia as a “voice of wisdom in the Mediterranean.” He welcomed Tunisia’s constructive role in international affairs and its support for the UN, particularly regarding its mission in Libya.
