Tunis, October 23, 2025 — Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Tunisians Abroad, Mohamed Ali Nafti, received Mr. Matt Skelly, the newly appointed Ambassador of Australia to Tunisia, with residence in Malta, who presented a copy of his credentials during a meeting in Tunis.
Minister Nafti praised the strong relations between Tunisia and Australia since the establishment of diplomatic ties in 1977 and called for deeper cooperation in areas of mutual interest, particularly in trade, investment, and the economy. He highlighted opportunities for collaboration in agriculture, water management, renewable energy, mining, higher education, and scientific research.
The Minister proposed organizing business delegations and economic events in both countries to promote partnerships, emphasizing the role of the Tunisian community in Australia in fostering closer ties.
He also underlined the importance of holding the third round of political consultations soon and at a high level to reflect the strength of bilateral relations.
Ambassador Skelly expressed Australia’s commitment to enhancing cooperation with Tunisia, noting his country’s interest in investment opportunities in mining, renewable energy, and oil and gas exploration. He also highlighted Australia’s readiness to share expertise in combating climate change as part of its initiative to support African nations.
