Health authorities in the Democratic Republic of Congo announced on Monday, December 1, 2025, the end of the recent Ebola outbreak, after 42 consecutive days with no new confirmed infections.
The outbreak, first reported on September 4 in the Bulape area of Kasai province, was the country’s first since 2022. According to the Ministry of Health, the virus infected 64 people, resulting in 45 deaths, while 19 patients recovered.
From the outset, the DRC deployed an updated nationwide surveillance system, enabling rapid mapping of infection zones and helping contain the spread. No new cases had been reported since September 25, and the last Ebola patient was discharged from hospital on October 19.
Ebola, a rare but often deadly viral disease, is endemic to Congo’s dense tropical forests and is transmitted through contact with blood or bodily fluids. Common symptoms include fever, body pain, and diarrhea.
