Tunisia Reaffirms Support for Somalia at OIC Meeting

Tunisia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Tunisians Abroad, Mohamed Ali Nafti, reaffirmed Tunisia’s firm support for Somalia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity during the 22nd Extraordinary Session of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers held on January 10, 2026, in Jeddah.

In his speech, Minister Nafti strongly condemned the occupying entity’s recognition of the so-called “District of Somaliland,” describing it as a colonial practice that violates international law and threatens regional stability. He stressed Tunisia’s alignment with the positions of the OIC, the Arab League, and the African Union in rejecting the move, while also reiterating Tunisia’s unwavering support for the Palestinian people’s right to an independent state with Jerusalem as its capital.

On the sidelines of the meeting, Nafti held talks with several counterparts to coordinate support for Somalia. Somali Foreign Minister Abdisalam Abdi Ali and Palestinian Foreign Minister Varsen Aghabekian both praised Tunisia’s principled stance. Nafti also met with his Egyptian counterpart to discuss regional coordination and preparations for an upcoming tripartite meeting on Libya.
