Tunisian Defense Minister Meets US Official to Boost Military Cooperation

Strengthening military cooperation between Tunisia and the United States was the focus of a meeting held on Wednesday, 14 January 2026, between Tunisian Minister of National Defense Khaled Sehili and U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for African Affairs Brian J. Ellis.

According to a statement from the Ministry of National Defense, the meeting was attended by U.S. Ambassador to Tunisia Bill Bazzi, along with senior officials from both sides. Discussions centered on ways to enhance and diversify bilateral military cooperation.

During the meeting, Sehili praised the longstanding historical ties between Tunisia and the United States, which date back to the late 18th century. He expressed satisfaction with the positive outcomes of the joint military cooperation program, highlighting recent high-level visits and the delivery of military equipment, including a C-130 aircraft, aimed at strengthening the operational readiness and capabilities of the Tunisian armed forces.
