Tunisia Plans Major Expansion of Tunis–Carthage International Airport

Tunisia’s Ministry of Transport has suggested dropping plans to build a new airport for now, and instead undertaking a major expansion of Tunis-Carthage International Airport.

The move seeks to increase the airport’s capacity from 5 million to 18.5 million passengers by the end of 2031, thus enabling it to remain operational beyond 2050.

In its written reply to a question from Member of Parliament Helmi Boussem, the ministry stated that it had included the project in the 2026 investment budget of the Civil Aviation and Airports Authority.

The estimated cost of the project is 3 billion Tunisian dinars.
