OpenAI has signed a $38 billion agreement to purchase cloud storage capacity from Amazon Web Services (AWS), marking its first major deal with the cloud infrastructure giant.
The move signals that the $500 billion AI company is no longer solely reliant on Microsoft. Under the agreement announced Monday, OpenAI will begin running workloads on AWS infrastructure, leveraging hundreds of thousands of Nvidia GPUs in the United States, with plans to expand storage capacity in the coming years.
Amazon’s shares rose by about 5% following the announcement.
