The Tunisian President Kais Saied received, on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, the Ambassador of Japan to Tunisia, Takeshi Osuga, at the Carthage Palace for a farewell meeting marking the end of his diplomatic tenure in the country.
During the meeting, President Saied underscored the strength of the long-standing friendship and productive cooperation between Tunisia and Japan. He praised the progress achieved both bilaterally and through frameworks such as the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD), which Tunisia hosted in 2022 and participated in again at its ninth session in Yokohama in August 2025.
He expressed Tunisia’s commitment to further expanding cooperation with Japan across diverse sectors, opening new avenues for joint projects. The President also conveyed appreciation for Ambassador Osuga’s efforts in strengthening bilateral relations, especially as the two nations approach the 70th anniversary of their diplomatic ties.
For his part, Ambassador Osuga highlighted the mutual trust in Tunisian–Japanese relations and commended the long history of collaboration between the two countries. He reaffirmed Japan’s keenness to continue broadening its cooperation and investment in Tunisia, particularly in infrastructure development, and expressed gratitude for the support he received throughout his mission
