Maduro Jailed in New York, Trial Postponed to March

Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro will remain in custody in New York and is scheduled to appear in court again on March 17, following a ruling by Judge Alvin Hellerstein on Monday.

Maduro pleaded not guilty to four charges, including drug trafficking, after being arrested by the U.S. military in Caracas on Saturday and transferred to the United States.

The hearing lasted about 30 minutes. According to The New York Times, Maduro described himself as a “prisoner of war” as he left the courtroom.
