Tunisian Foreign Minister Holds Bilateral Meetings on Sidelines of AU Executive Council

Tunisian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Tunisians Abroad, Mohamed Ali Nafti, began his participation in the 48th Ordinary Session of the African Union (AU) Executive Council in Addis Ababa on 11–12 February 2026 by holding a series of bilateral meetings with senior AU Commission officials and African foreign ministers.

During talks with AU Deputy Chairperson Selma Haddadi, discussions focused on Tunisia–AU cooperation, Tunisia’s engagement in development programmes, peace and security efforts, and its role in the AU’s institutional reform process. The minister also addressed the status of African institutions hosted in Tunisia and efforts to support their operations.

Nafti reaffirmed Tunisia’s commitment to peace and security in Africa during meetings with AU Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace and Security Adeoye Bankole, and highlighted Tunisia’s approach to addressing irregular migration. He also met with Commissioner for Economic Development, Tourism, Industry and Minerals Francesca Belobe to discuss strengthening African economic integration and mobilising financing for development projects.

Further talks were held with AUDA-NEPAD Executive Director Nardos Bekele-Thomas to review progress on joint cooperation projects.

On the sidelines of the session, the minister met several African counterparts, including Algeria’s Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf, as well as ministers from Kenya, Ethiopia, Comoros, Togo, Cameroon, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Uganda and Zambia, to enhance bilateral cooperation and coordinate positions within the AU.
