At least 31 people were killed and 169 others injured in a deadly explosion at a Shia mosque during Friday prayers in Islamabad, Pakistani officials said.
According to police, a suicide bomber detonated an explosive device near the mosque’s entrance in the Tarlai area. Eyewitnesses reported hearing gunfire moments before the blast.
Emergency services rushed the wounded to hospitals across the capital, where authorities declared a medical emergency and appealed for blood donations.
Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif strongly condemned the attack, expressing deep grief over the loss of life and calling for a thorough investigation to swiftly identify those responsible.
