Tunisia, Canada Sign Cooperation MoU in Education, Health and Trade

Tunisian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration, and Tunisians Abroad Mohamed Ali Nafti met on February 9, 2026, with Jean-Claude D’Amours, Minister of Government Affairs of Canada’s Province of New Brunswick, who is on a working visit to Tunisia from February 7 to 12, accompanied by the Canadian Ambassador to Tunisia.

The talks highlighted the strength of Tunisian-Canadian relations and the shared commitment to deepen cooperation, particularly in education, science, and research. Nafti also stressed the importance of collaboration within the International Organization of La Francophonie and praised the positive role of the Tunisian community in Canada in strengthening bilateral ties.

A separate working session between Secretary of State Mohamed Ben Ayed and D’Amours focused on boosting cooperation with New Brunswick, notably in trade exchanges and labor recruitment. The Canadian side reaffirmed its interest in strengthening ties with Tunisia under New Brunswick’s Francophone Africa Strategy, launched in May 2025.

The meetings concluded with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding to establish a framework for cooperation in priority areas including higher education, health, training, trade, culture, and tourism.
