Massive wildfires have spread across North and South Carolina, prompting authorities to declare a state of emergency in South Carolina to support firefighting efforts.
According to the Associated Press, fire crews are battling over 170 fires in the region, including a major blaze near Myrtle Beach. One wildfire in the Carolina Forest area of Horry County has already burned 1,200 acres.
Despite the fires nearing residential areas, authorities confirmed no injuries, fatalities, or property damage. Evacuated residents have been allowed to return home, while South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster has declared a state of emergency to ensure adequate resources for emergency teams.
