Harvard-trained gastroenterologist Dr. Sourabh Sethi says quitting sugar can transform the body in just two weeks. Facial puffiness decreases, fluid retention around the eyes eases, and both belly and liver fat begin to drop.

Cutting sugar also helps restore gut health and may improve skin by reducing acne and redness. A Chinese study further linked sugary drinks to higher acne risk and liver fat buildup.

Although withdrawal symptoms like headaches and stomach pain may occur, experts stress that the benefits—better sleep, higher energy, weight loss, and stronger skin, hair, and nails—make going sugar-free worth it.
