On Thursday, December 12, 2024, Syria’s interim government, led by opposition factions under Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham, has expressed gratitude to seven Arab countries—Egypt, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Jordan, Bahrain, and Oman—for resuming diplomatic missions in Damascus after the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s regime.
The government also acknowledged pledges from Qatar and Turkiye to reopen their embassies soon.
This announcement follows the appointment of Mohamed al-Bashir to lead a transitional government until March 2025, marking a new chapter in Syria’s recovery and diplomatic engagement.
