Tunisia, World Bank Review Progress on Energy Projects

Minister of Industry, Mines and Energy Fatma Thabet Chiboub held talks on Monday with Almud Weitz, the World Bank’s Regional Infrastructure Director for MENA, to review the progress of ongoing energy projects.

The meeting, attended by senior officials and representatives from STEG, focused on key initiatives such as the Tunisia-Italy electricity interconnection (ELMED) and the development of the national power grid. Discussions also addressed technical and logistical challenges, as well as future cooperation programs.

Minister Chiboub highlighted the importance of expanding clean energy projects to reduce carbon emissions, while Weitz, on her first official visit to Tunisia, reaffirmed the World Bank’s commitment to supporting Tunisia’s energy diversification goals.
