Tunisia, EU Discuss Pact for the Mediterranean and Regional Issues

Tunisian Foreign Minister Mohamed Ali Nafti met on Wednesday, October 2, 2025, with European Commissioner for the Mediterranean Dubravka Suica during her official visit to Tunisia.

Talks centered on strengthening Tunisia–EU relations ahead of the upcoming Association Council, marking 30 years since the 1995 Agreement. Minister Nafti reaffirmed Tunisia’s commitment to a balanced partnership based on equality and sovereignty, calling for renewed ties aligned with national priorities.

Discussions also addressed the new Pact for the Mediterranean, with Nafti urging an inclusive framework promoting regular migration, sustainable development, and joint responses to shared challenges. Commissioner Suica praised Tunisia’s role and highlighted opportunities in investment, mobility, and academic exchange.

The meeting further covered regional issues, notably the Palestinian cause, with Nafti reiterating Tunisia’s firm support for an independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital.
