Meta to Shut Down Messenger Desktop Apps by December 15

Meta has announced it will permanently shut down its Messenger apps for Windows and Mac on December 15, 2025.

According to TechCrunch, Messenger desktop apps will stop working after December 15. Users are being notified in advance and will be redirected to use Messenger via the Facebook website. Meta recommends deleting the desktop app and suggests using the Facebook desktop app (for Windows) or accessing Messenger through a browser.

Users are also encouraged to enable « Secure Storage » and set up a PIN to protect their chat history, which will remain available across platforms.
