Italian Minister of Culture on Working Visit to Tunis

As part of efforts to strengthen Tunisian–Italian cultural cooperation and promote national heritage, Tunisia’s Minister of Cultural Affairs, Amina Srarfi, welcomed Italian Minister of Culture Alessandro Giuli at Tunis–Carthage International Airport on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, ahead of his official visit within a joint cultural cooperation program.

During his official visit to Tunisia on Thursday, January 22, Minister Giuli conducted field visits to several major archaeological sites in Carthage, accompanied by the Director-General of the National Heritage Institute, Tarek Baccouche, and senior officials from the Ministry of Cultural Affairs.

The tour began at the archaeological site of Carthage, a UNESCO-listed landmark reflecting the succession of civilizations, particularly the Roman presence in the Mediterranean. The delegation also visited the Antonine Baths, one of the most significant Roman monuments in Africa, where they reviewed its architectural features and ongoing preservation efforts.

The visit included the Early Christian Museum, which houses rare artifacts from excavations of churches, homes, and the Carthage circus, as well as pottery discovered in Punic harbors dating back to late antiquity.

This visit underscores the commitment of Tunisia and Italy to deepen cooperation in archaeological research, heritage conservation, expertise exchange, and the development of joint projects aimed at enhancing the cultural and tourism value of archaeological sites at regional and international levels.
