Tunisia hosted, on January 26, 2026, a meeting of the Foreign Ministers of Tunisia, Algeria, and Egypt within the framework of the Tripartite Consultation Mechanism on Libya, aimed at reviewing the latest developments in the Libyan crisis and advancing efforts toward a comprehensive political settlement.
The meeting brought together Tunisian Foreign Minister Mohamed Ali Nafti, Algerian Minister of State and Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf, and Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty. Discussions reflected the shared determination of the three countries to intensify coordination, unify efforts, and place Libya’s supreme national interest at the core of the tripartite process.
The Ministers reaffirmed their support for a Libyan-led and Libyan-owned political solution, under the auspices of the United Nations, without excluding any party. They stressed the importance of maintaining Libya’s unity, rejecting all forms of foreign interference, and ensuring the withdrawal of mercenaries and foreign fighters from the country.
The talks emphasized the need to strengthen consultation on the Libyan file, support UN efforts toward a comprehensive settlement, and enhance coordination with Libya’s neighboring states. The Ministers also called for holding simultaneous presidential and parliamentary elections to end institutional division and meet the aspirations of the Libyan people.
Economic cooperation and integration across Libya were highlighted as key pillars for achieving sustainable development and creating favorable conditions for political stability. The Ministers further underlined that Libya’s security is integral to regional and Arab security, particularly in the Sahel-Saharan region.
On the sidelines of the meeting, the three Ministers held a working session with the UN Special Envoy to Libya, reaffirming their support for the UN Roadmap and the importance of enhancing its effectiveness through regional coordination.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the Ministers agreed to maintain the regularity of the Tripartite Consultation Mechanism and welcomed holding the next meeting in Cairo at a date to be determined through diplomatic channels.
