Tunisian FM Nafti and UNSMIL Chief Tetteh Discuss Situation in Libya

Tunis, November 28, 2025 — Tunisian Foreign Minister Mohamed Ali Nafti met with Hanna Tetteh, Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General and Head of UNSMIL, to discuss the status of the Libyan political process and ways to accelerate UN-supported mediation efforts.

Nafti reaffirmed Tunisia’s unwavering support for a Libyan-led political, constitutional, and legal settlement that safeguards Libya’s unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, while rejecting all external interference. He noted the importance of broad participation—particularly by youth and civil society—through digital and interactive platforms as part of the UN’s “structured dialogue” initiative.

He also emphasized Tunisia’s active role within the tripartite coordination with neighboring countries, which he described as an effective framework for aligning regional efforts and reinforcing the UN-led process.

For her part, Tetteh expressed appreciation for Tunisia’s balanced and constructive stance, praising the country’s contribution to fostering consensus among Libyan actors. She affirmed UNSMIL’s readiness to continue close coordination with Tunisia and regional partners to move forward toward a durable political settlement that meets the aspirations of the Libyan people for peace and stability.
